Over the past couple of months leading up to the 2025 NBA Finals, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has addressed the idea of expanding NBA teams, noting that expansion is being discussed. However, no final decision has been made public.
While speaking with NBA writer Steve Aschburner, Adam Silver stated, “I view that as a form of expansion as well, and that’s something we’re also thinking hard about.” It appears the NBA may be moving toward expansion.
Unfortunately, many NBA fans and reporters are speculating that this expansion may not happen at all due to conversations among team owners. Looking back at the last NBA expansion in 2004, that was when the Charlotte Bobcats now known as the “Charlotte Hornets” joined the league.
One writer by the name of Julia Cabral, who writes for “beIN SPORTS” stated that, “Silver has consistently maintained that expansion would only happen if it made sense both competitively and financially.”
So far, many of us don’t know what the next step is for NBA expansion. It could involve new teams in Florida, Missouri, or Wisconsin we truly don’t know, as it’s all speculation. For now, all we can do is wait and see how this develops.
