On Thursday, June 4th, entrepreneurs gathered at the West Houston Institute for the annual Business Plan Competition awards ceremony. The ceremony concluded a months-long competition where entrepreneurs pitched ideas to judges for a chance to win seed money to help grow their business.
This year’s big winner was Khaliah O. Guillory, who earned a $12,000 1st prize for KOG & Company’s Performance Rehab. In a 5-minute video to judges, Guillory described the business’s goal to transform culture and leadership habits through immersive virtual reality experiences, so professionals no longer wear ambition and exhaustion as a “badge of honor.”
As a former Division I team captain and certified sleep coach, Guillory recognizes the challenges professionals often face when balancing work and sleep schedules. Guillory is on a mission to help other professionals succeed holistically by leveraging digital tools and structured aftercare, enabling teams to perform better without losing out on sleep.
The $12,000 first place prize will go towards upgrading the business’s VR software and hardware. During the ceremony, Guillory smiled while lifting the giant check on stage as the audience erupted in applause.
