Los Angeles – Gerard Way, the iconic vocalist from the rock band My Chemical Romance, released on September 16 a new single called “I Wanna Know Your Name” with his latest project, The Mock-ups. The song, available on all digital platforms, marks the first new material from a musician in several years and presents an energetic sound with evident new wave influences.
Way is the founder and frontman of My Chemical Romance, a band formed in 2001 in New Jersey that became one of the most influential rock groups of its generation. With a sound that fused punk, alternative rock, and opera rock in conceptually acclaimed albums such as “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” (2004) and “The Black Parade” (2006), the band defined an era before their separation in 2013 and subsequent reunion in 2019. This new Way’s releases connect with his legacy throughout Doug McKean’s posthumous production, a historic collaborator from My Chemical Romance, which suggests that the sessions are from a few years ago.
The Mock-ups formation includes members of the actual punk scene, such as Aimee Interrupter in the choir and the band members, including Kevin Bivona and Jesse Bivona, on keyboard and drums. It is not yet confirmed whether “I Wanna Know Your Name” is a standalone single or the prelude to a more extensive recording project. Still, its release generated big expectations among followers of Way’s musical career.
