Thursday Night Football: Minnesota Vikings v. Washington Redskins

As many football fans know, don’t expect a great game to be played on Thursday. Such was last night’s game. The Vikings beat the Redskins in convincing fashion 19-9 at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Both teams were slow to get going in the 1st quarter with Minnesota scoring a field goal first and Washington following suit. This tied the game at 3-3. The 2nd quarter was about the same; the Vikings kicked another field goal with Washington repeating in time. Just after the 2 minute warning (1:57 on the clock), Minnesota receive the ball at their 20. In less than two minutes, on 3rd & Goal, Kirk Cousins hands the ball off to Dalvin Cook for a 4 yd touchdown. The extra point is good, putting the Vikings 13-6 at halftime. If you’re a fan of field goals, 3 more were kicked in the 3rd quarter. Minnesota again started off with a field, with Washington doing the same. The Vikings kicked another field goal, which basically ended the game, putting them on top of the Redskins 19-9. With the win, Minnesota move to 6-2 in the standings (second place in the NFC North) while Washington sinks to 1-7 (bottom of the NFC East). The Skins seem to be in the race for the #1 pick for next year’s draft, while the Vikes look more and more like playoff contenders come January. Also this is the third game in a row where Joe Buck was the play by play announcer. He will also be calling Games 3-4 and Games 5-7 of the World Series if necessary.  If you know, you know.
