The Seattle Seahawks showed the entire NFL season in 2025 that they were the better football team throughout the year. It showed that way in the biggest game of the season as they annihilated the New England Patriots 29-13 in a dominating factor at Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA.
It is the franchise’s second Super Bowl trophy and a little revenge from what happened 12-years ago on the play that Seahawks fans were mortified and Patriots fans rejoicing from Malcolm Butler making the interception to change the game in Super Bowl XLIX.
No one gave the Seahawks a chance late in the season, thinking that the Los Angeles Rams (the Seahawks division rivals) were the odds-on favorites to win the Super Bowl. However, the Seahawks got a huge win over the Rams in week 16 to make sure that they got homefield advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.
They ran the table throughout the playoffs by stumping out their two NFC West rivals: 49ers (in the divisional) and Rams (in the NFC Championship).
“You talk about a group of guys who battle every day, who believe in each other, believe in their coach,” star cornerback Devon Witherspoon told NBC after the game. “I mean, you can’t describe this group no better. It’s just a one-of-a kind feeling.”
The Seahawks (17-3) started their drive on a 5 plays 51 yards drive that would cap off with a Jason Myers’ 33- yards field goal to make it 3-0 in the first quarter.
The Patriots (17-4) could not get anything going throughout the first half which had 8 possessions that would result in five consecutive punts. The Seahawks defense would make Patriots quarterback Drake Maye tough to move the offense. They had six sacks Sunday night, making sure that they forced three turnovers.
Seattle took a 6-0 lead on Myers 39 yards field goal with 11:16 in the second quarter. The drive was resulting with Kenneth Walker III making key runs of 29 and 30 yards on the drive. It was an impressive 8 plays 55 yards drive that took off 2:54 off the clock.
Seattle would go into the half 9-0 on Myers’ third field goal of the game on a 41-yards field goal. New England would be the 15th team in Super Bowl history to go scoreless in the first half.
Seattle would increase the lead to 12-0 on Myers’ fourth field goal from 41 yards. He would have five field goals in the Super Bowl.
The first touchdown of the night in the game was from quarterback Sam Darnold’s 16 yards pass to AJ Barnes to make it 19-0 in the fourth quarter. It capped off 5 plays 37 yards with 13:24 left in the game.
New England would finally get on the board on a 35 yards pass from Maye to Mack Hollins to make it 19-7.
However, the Seattle defense would have a field day in the backfield from their four linemen going after Maye. The Darkside Defense (led by former Texas DT Byron Murphy II) is making some key plays in the game. Maye threw two interceptions in the game: including the game closing play by Uchenna Nwosu for a 45 yards return touchdown.
New England makes the game slightly competitive on Maye’s second touchdown of the night. This time he would find Rhamondre Stevenson 7 yards touchdown pass but the two points conversion is not good.
Walker would be the MVP of the Super Bowl where he would rush 135 yards on 27 carries. Walker would carry the team on his back to show that he would do whatever it took to make sure that the offense would get into rhythm.
The Patriots defense would make sure to contain the Seahawks passing game to shut down Jaxson Smith, Njigba and Darnold. Darnold would finish the game 19 of 38 for 202 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Meanwhile, Patriots QB Maye was 27 of 43 for 295 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.
With the win, the Seahawks are going to be the odds-on favorites to go back to the Super Bowl next season. There are other teams in the league that will be challenging for the Super Bowl which will be hosted next year at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA.
