Tennis season for Houston Community College’s Eagles has ended for 2014. Crushing losses and sweet victories made the year memorable for Coach Carlton Abernathy and his team.

Scheduled matches begin in February and the team practices Thursday nights at the world-class Downtown Club at the Met. Club tennis includes men and women singles, men and women doubles, and mixed doubles.

HCC students with at least 6 credit hours and a 2.0 GPA are encouraged to contact Coach Abernathy to sign-up for the team. As with all club sports, skill level from beginner to advanced and all ages are welcomed.

As a 2 year college, HCC is not eligible to play in the NCAA division.  However, the team participates in organized practices and tournaments through club sports. Currently there are eight teams The Eagles play against on the club level. The teams are part of the Lone Star Club Conference. Additionally, the United States Tennis Association provide on-campus events for the team during the year. The Eagles also have other chances to compete. Twice in the Fall and once in the Spring, all Texas colleges are invited to play at a NCAA event.

It is never too late to learn to play tennis.  Like golf, if you learn tennis, there is a good chance you will continue to play throughout your life.
