My journey started after Covid. I was supposed to go back to medical college but the political situation in my country led me to this journey which was a blessing in disguise because at that point in my life I realized I did not want to become a doctor. It was such a turning point in my life because I had never thought about going abroad to study and starting this chapter in my life.

I started to think about what I should do for a career and chose to be a sport journalist. The one who inspired me was a soccer journalist, Fabrizio Romano, who is one of the best sources in soccer media always with credible up-to-date information. I loved creative writing and soccer, and I thought this could be my career.
And then I decided to get into HCC to come and study mass media communication. One of the hardest things was telling my dad that I was going to US to study communication because he was the one who wanted me to become a doctor just like my brother. Finally, he agreed with me with the help of my sister who was working in a PR company in Indonesia.
My sister has been one of my biggest supporters since day one. She helped with improve my English, choosing this career and even with all the school and visa applications. Whenever I need any advice, she will always be my go-to.
I planned everything and was super excited to start my journey at HCC in fall of 2022, but I had a slight hiccup. My visa was refused in November, and I could not make it for the fall semester. I had to try it once again in March of 2023 and finally made it here for the summer semester.
Now here I am, one semester away from graduation, I can say that I am getting closer. I am not going to stop at just associate, I am going to get a bachelor’s degree in journalism after this. I want to go to Europe and become a sport journalist, specifically a soccer journalist hopefully in 5 years.
