World heavyweight boxing champion and Olympic gold medalist George Foreman passed away on March 21, 2025. He was 76. Foreman, known as “Big George”, won an Olympic gold medal at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City and five years later in 1973 he won the world heavyweight championship by stunningly knocking out Joe Frazier in the 2nd round. He would lose the title the next year in the famous “Rumble in the Jungle” to Muhammed Ali. 20 years later at the age of 45, Foreman reclaimed the heavyweight title by knocking out Michael Moorer in the 10th round, making Big George the oldest boxer to win the crown.
Foreman became an ordained minister in 1978 and in 1980, founded the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Houston, Texas. In 1984, he founded the nonprofit George Foreman Youth and Community Center in the 5th Ward community in Houston where he grew up. Foreman was also a successful businessman, known for his “George Foreman Grill” which has sold more than 100 million worldwide.
