Brian Thompson, the 50 year old CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was tragically shot and killed in a targeted attack outside of the New York Hilton Midtown on the morning of December 4, 2024. The incident occurred hours before UnitedHealth Group’s annual investor conference and the Rockefeller Center Christmas lighting.
Surveillance footage revealed that the shooter, who appeared to have been waiting for Thompson, approached him from behind and fired multiple shots before fleeing on an e-bike. The suspect remain at large despite of the extensive search with helicopters, drones, and dogs. The NYPD has released images of the shooter and is offering $10,000 reward for information leading to arrest.
Thompson’s wife reported that he had received threats, possibly related to insurance issues. Although, local authorities had no prior reports. UnitedHealth Group expressed deep sorrow over Thompson’s death, describing him as a respected leader. The investor conference was cut short following the incident, additionally security was promised for the nearby Rockefeller Center event. Investigators are ongoing with police examining evidence, including surveillance footage, social media activity, and Thompson’s hotel room.
