M-K-T in the Heights officially opened up in 2019 and has been a refreshing experience. The bustling culinary and shopping destination boasts more than 50 businesses of different kinds ranging from spas to clothing stores to corporate offices. When you arrive at M-K-T, there is plenty of available parking for guests to utilize, at no charge! The area is spacious, architecturally-pleasing, and has multiple businesses to check out during your visit.
One of the businesses that I got to visit was Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming. This adorable pet store has hundreds of pet-friendly desserts in-stock that are made in-house! They have something for every breed and size of dogs and even provide a variety of grooming services. The service was excellent and the employees were very knowledgeable. This definitely is a one-stop shop.
Furthermore, an M-K-T review would not be complete without their food. We visited one of their restaurants, Buttermilk Baby, and although the aesthetics were definitely there, the service and food was disappointing. The restaurant follows a retro diner concept and is very vibrant. It has neon signs throughout the establishment and the architecture overall is very “sweet”. There is an over-sized ice cream sundae sitting area, a life-size unicorn statue, and bar stools that make you feel like you have time-traveled back to a 50’s diner. They also have an outdoor seating area with cotton candy swings which make for a great photo-op.
However, as beautiful as the diner is, the overall service was simply lacking. The menu items are overpriced and the photos are very misleading. Alcoholic drinks average around $13 each and consist mainly of ice. Compared to what was advertised, the actual drink itself was extremely underwhelming. On the other hand, the actual meal was decent. They have an array of burgers, chicken sandwiches, and sides. For the price, however, I could not justify ever going back.
Although the experience at Buttermilk Baby was not as expected, M-K-T does offer multiple restaurants and cafes such as the popular La La Land Kind Cafe, sandwich shop Mendocino Farms, and a variety of different eateries from different cultural backgrounds. The market space offers a sushi grill, a Euro-Indian fusion restaurant, a Sichuan bistro, and so much more. There are multiple dessert shops as well for those who crave a sweet treat after a savory meal.
Not only does M-K-T offer restaurants, but clothing stores and wellness shops as well. These include bridal store Grace Loves Lace, facial spa Hi,Skin, Hush Hush Tan, and more. M-K-T also hosts monthly events such as group yoga classes and farmer’s markets. To further promote their active lifestyle, the shopping center includes trails where you can run, bike, or walk.
Overall, M-K-T offers so much to the neighborhood. They not only provide a variety of services and experiences, but urge guests to get involved with their neighborhood events. Although my personal experience with the food was not the greatest, I would definitely go back to try their other options. M-K-T is a beautiful area and it seems like it will only expand from here.
