Omicron Variant Detected in Houston Wastewater

Although there have been no cases of the Omicron variant in Houston, it has been found in 8 of the 39 wastewater treatment plants. KHOU11 published the story December 6, stating “Samples that were taken on Nov. 29 and Nov. 30 showed the variant in eight of the city’s 39 wastewater treatment plants, including W.C.I.D. #111, Chocolate Bayou, Keegans Bayou, Metro Central, Northgate, Sims Bayou North, Turkey Creek, and West District. The confirmation was received Monday.”

It’s important to stay up-to-date on all these things because this variant is far more concerning than Delta. Omicron has everyone radars on high, due to how high its infection rate is, giving COVID to people who have immunity to other mutations.

One way to keep yourself aware of the situation is to check the water level map! https://covidwwtp.spatialstudieslab.org/
