Astroworld Tragedy

As many have heard this last weekend chaos turned into a tragedy when surging crowds at Astroworld caused 8 fatalities. 50,000 ticketed fans were at this outdoor event, the crowd so wild that it started trampling and crushing over people.

Chron.com wrote on how the event staff was trained to call deceased codes over the radio as “smurfs”, being that there should not be a call going out that says someone has died.

In the report, it was also stated that they didn’t see any negative potential for this event, even though they were taking into consideration how 3 people were rushed to the hospital in 2019 when there was a gate stampede at Astroworld. There were no specific protocols for a crowd surge is what was told to Chron.com. This arise concerns seeing that there was protocol for mass shootings, bomb threats, and child abduction.

This lack of protocol preparation caused chaos to unfold the night of November 5 th. On top of the lack of protocol, there has been outrage at the fact that Travis Scott did not stop the show even though he was becoming aware of the situation that was unfolding. Staff and event workers are also being put on blame after a video of a girl who went on stage saying “people are dying in there” was dismissed and not taken seriously.

This event goes to show that we all have to look out and be respectful of one another. There are 8 lives that are no longer with us because of this tragedy. Astroworld Tragedy
