After a dismal road trip where the Astros went 2-8 and loss their hold of the American League West to fall behind the Rangers by 2.5 games, they returned to Minute Maid Park looking for the answers on how to regain the magic that has surrounded the team all season.
On Friday prior to the game, the franchised honored the memory of their beloved Hall of Fame broadcast radio commentator Milo Hamilton who passed away at the age of 88 on Thursday.
Once the game was on the way, the Astros bats caught fire and scored in the first three innings of the game to then be shoot out the rest of the game by great defensive plays on the A’s part.
After falling into a hole of 3-0 the A’s, behind the bat of Danny Valencia, made a strong come back hitting three home runs and nailing down the win.
The loss was a missed opportunity to gain back one of the games lost to the Rangers since the Mariners also dealt them a loss.
Saturday’s game started much the same with the Astros jumping out to a 3-0 lead just to see it disappear by the fourth inning and erased in the fifth inning. However, the good guys mounted another one of their signature comebacks scoring seven unanswered runs to clinch the victory.
Once again the Astros were not able to gain any ground on the Rangers due to their victory over the Mariners.
Sundays game was a second win in a row for the hometown boys fueled by the arm and defense of Collin McHugh and timely hitting by the entire lineup.
With the win on Sunday and the help of the Seattle Mariners in defeating the Rangers, the Astros crept ever so closer to 1.5 games behind Texas for first place in the A.L. West.
Up next for the Astros is the Anaheim Angels whom which are also fighting for the A.L. West and the A.L. Wildcard.
