Baytown, TX – A very recognizable and well known ExxonMobil building, labeled as the “White House”, is scheduled for implosion this Saturday June 21, 2025 at 8 A.M. The 10-story office, which once operated key components for this large company, will be demolished as part of a larger reconstruction project for the area.
ExxonMobil officials have reportedly stated that there will be no public viewing and all residents in the area a recommended to avoid the demolition site for safety. While this can be a dangerous process, engineers and safety crew have been assuring the safety of the area for the past few weeks while meeting all safety protocols. The demolition will be managed by a specialized large-scale industrial contractor.
Although this building was once one of the most important ExxonMobil offices, it has remained vacant for many years. Employees, supervisors, and project had been relocated while the well known building has stood on Decker Drive, empty. And for many Baytown natives, the demolition of the “White House” is more significant than most would see it.
A former employee who worked with the company for over two decades called the planned implosion “bittersweet. It was more than just concrete and steel — it was where a lot of people spent most of their careers”.
The company has not released details on the plans for after the demolition, however it seems to look like an encouragement to continue the ExxonMobil presence in Baytown, as this office was one of the largest petrochemical facilities in the country.
The actual implosion is reported to only last a couple of seconds, but its overall deeper meaning will make a larger impact on the community as a whole. Think of this as making space for future endeavors while remembering the importance of the past and all of the accomplishments that came with it!
