Throughout high school, my family made it clear I had an image of our family that I needed to uphold. I knew that was a very important matter to my family, so I did just that. I became close with teachers and admins, joined several extracurricular activities, had straight A’s, and even became the president of my school’s FFA chapter. However, I also felt the want to party every chance I got. I also did just that. I threw massive parties at my parents house and went to several different parties in my town as well as surrounding towns. I was able to maintain a clean reputation in school because I found it easy to persuade parents and school staff that I was just “having fun”. After my junior year, I started to notice how easy it was for me to show people the parts of them that I allowed. Not just in school, but in my own household and when I joined the workforce.
I knew then I had to do something surrounding reputations and people in general. At that time, I did not ever think of public relations as a career choice. That was not until I watched a certain show, Scandal. I knew while watching the show that I could also do that. I found that I was really good with words and navigating others emotions. I started looking on social media for ideas on how to expand brands and how I would deal with celebrity scandals that were around during that time.
Fast forward, I started my PR journey in hopes to build myself up on social media and one day create my own brand. I think that my time spent on social media is a heavy advantage for my goal. For years I have paid close attention to trends and also canceled culture. It is important to educate myself on offensive language, jokes, and topics. I would center my brand and content around traveling, partying, and shopping. There is a large social media audience surrounding that life style, and social media grows, the audience will as well.
