The 2023 NFL Draft class was one Houston will never forget. The Houston Texans’ journey to greatness started when they drafted franchise quarterback CJ Stroud with the second overall pick and then traded back up with the Arizona Cardinals for the third overall pick to select defensive end Will Anderson Jr.
While Will Anderson Jr. recorded 45 tackles (29 solo), 10 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 22 quarterback hits, and one pass defense, CJ Stroud completed 319 of 499 passes for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and five interceptions that season. They were both named rookie of the year.
With no first-round selections in the 2024 draft, the Texans selected defensive key pieces in cornerback Kamari Lassiter and Calen Bullock in the upcoming draft. The offseason began with the Texans signing some big names, including running back Joe Mixon and defensive end Danielle Hunter, both of whom ended up being excellent additions.
The Houston Texans need a better offensive line to protect their young quarterback, C.J. Stroud, improve their running game, and create more opportunities for the offense overall. Stroud was sacked 52 times and threw 12 interceptions in the 2024 season, highlighting a significant need for better pass protection.
The Texans made a good move by moving on from Laremy Tunsil this offseason, even if it may appear like a poor one. The draft picks acquired will allow the Texans to be more flexible in the draft and maybe further address their offensive line and other position needs. Also, the Texans want to invest in their younger offensive lineman and think they have a promising group.
Due to their experienced expertise and ability to strengthen the underperforming offensive line, Cam Robinson and Laken Tomlinson are viewed as valuable additions to the Houston Texans. The Texans are an excellent fit for C.J. Gardner-Johnson because of his leadership qualities, ball-hawking skills, and compatibility with the team’s aggressive defensive approach.
This year, the Texans have the 25th overall pick. Texans are capable of three things. C.J. Stroud needs help trading up may get them a quality receiver or a top lineman like Kelvin Banks. Staying at 25 or trading down for more mid-round selections will probably still result in the selection of an offensive tackle and a legitimate receiver like Emeka Egbuka.
