Double standards between men and women have been engraved in our society for centuries on end. From the workplace, your home life, dating, and emotional behavior, women are held to different standards than men. For example, Mr. Donald J. Trump.
According to Cosmopolitan, President Trump was quoted saying, “They put her in, and she somehow — a woman — somehow she’s doing better than [President Joe Biden] did.” President Trump is referring to the former Vice President, Kamala Harris. Referring to the fact that because Mrs. Harris was a woman, she was incapable of upholding a very sensitive matter. However, the current President was incapable of upholding his promise to the American people. According to CNN, President Trump was quoted saying, “When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day One.” Unfortunately, inflation is at an all time high.
Jessica, an HCC student stated that her twin brother, Bryan, is able to “goto any party and has no set curfew,” while Jessica, “must be under parental supervision and or home by 1:30am.” The question of why the differences are in place came down to the answer “he [Bryan] is a boy, he’s fine.” If the reason these parameters are set in place is strictly due to Jessica being a female, that would portray a gender based double standard.
Another prime example of modern day gender based double standards is Taylor Swift attending NFL games in support of tight end super star, Travis Kelce. Travis Kelce attended the Eras Tour 2023 in Argentina. When that occurred headlines read “Travis Kelce is Taylor Swift’s biggest fan” according to E!. However, when tables are turned, headlines are reading “Taylor Swift is Ruining Football!” according to FoxNews Radio.
At what point will women be 100% equal to men? Women could truly go on and on about the differences in standards and equality, but what would it truly matter for if we can not take it out as the basis of our society.
“Okay. A man does something, it’s ‘strategic’; a woman does the same thing, it’s ‘calculated.’ A man is allowed to ‘react’; a woman can only ‘over-react’.”- Taylor Swift.
