As the 2024 Democratic primary approaches, Harris County voters play a pivotal role in shaping the future of both local and national leadership. The following candidates have emerged as frontrunners in the primary races, based on recent polling and analysis:
- Colin Allred – A leading contender for the U.S. Senate nomination, Allred enjoys 66% support among Harris County Democratic voters. His strong position reflects a broad appeal within the party, with many seeing him as the best candidate to challenge Republican incumbents in the general election.

Harris County, Texas, is holding general elections on November 5, 2024, for several important positions, including county attorney, district attorney, sheriff, tax assessor-collector, county commission, community college district, constables, county department of education, county criminal court at law judges, district court judges, and justices of the peace. The primary election took place on March 5, 2024, with a primary runoff scheduled for May 28, 2024, if no candidate wins a majority.
The filing deadline for candidates was December 11, 2023. In addition to these offices, three seats on the Harris Central Appraisal District were up for election on May 4, 2024, with a runoff scheduled for June 15, 2024, if necessary.
