On January 23, 1981 Mike Bossy was the first player to score 50 goals in 50 games.

Bossy was an instant star for the New York Islanders leading them to four straight Stanley Cup Championships from 1980 – 1983.

Bossy scored the championship-winning goal in both ’82 and ’83 being the only player in NHL history to have consecutive winning goals in the finals.

When he retired he finished with 573 goals and 553 assists.

Bossy was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991.

In 1992 the Islanders retired his number 22, becoming the second number retired by the team.
