Student Gov talks resources

Wednesday Sept. 2, the HCC Student Government Association held its first public meeting of the semester. Many topics were discussed, including an outline of upcoming semester events and an explanation of what new resources are available to students this semester.

A free textbook campaign has begun. Central SGA Vice President Jessica Nguyen announced that the SGA has collected a number of textbooks which students at the Central Campus will have access to for free. The free textbook program is is support of the open book movement” and students are encouraged to both donate and borrow textbooks. Students can donate PDF and hard copies of books at the Central Student Life office in the Learning Hub Science Building room 115. Joel Philistin, HCC Central Financial Coach, emphasized his availability as a resource for students with financial shortcomings. In the past, he has hosted scholarship seminars, and he says this semester, he will continue to invite outside services to assist students who need financial support. Every year the College Advisory Board (CAB) accepts applications for student to be officially recognized. The CAB is currently accepting proposals, and due to the fundraising efforts of last summer and spring semester there is guaranteed grant funding for all recognized organizations.

The SGA encourages students to join committees and clubs and t to look forward to the presidential forums at South Campus on Oct. 8 and Central Campus Oct. 29. Students will have an opportunity to ask HCC Presidents questions and give feedback.
