Atlanta, GA — Grammy-winning rapper Young Thug, born Jeffery Williams, has been released from jail after pleading guilty to gang, drug, and gun charges. His plea marks a significant turn in a legal battle that began with his arrest in May 2022.
During a court hearing, Williams took responsibility for his actions, stating, “I take full responsibility for my crimes.” He received a sentence of time served and 15 years of probation, along with 100 hours of community service and a ban on contact with gang members.
Superior Court Judge Paige Whitaker initially noted that prosecutors sought a 45-year sentence but ultimately commuted Williams’ sentence based on time already served.
The case alleged that his label, Young Stoner Life (YSL) Records, was linked to violent crimes in Atlanta, drawing criticism for using rap lyrics as evidence of gang activity.
As part of his probation, Williams must participate in anti-gang presentations, aiming to steer youth away from crime. With his release, Young Thug’s involvement in Georgia’s longest-running criminal trial concludes, while the trials for his co-defendants will continue.
