Alice yells commands to her crew as they navigate the treacherous waters infested by pirates.  Three ships follow her in tight pursuit firing their cannons at her ship.   Alice’s crew looks ahead, and sees their death, as they are trapped between the pirates and the sharp reef with no escape.  The first mate turns to her and offers to surrender.  Alice looks out beyond, looking for a way out, looking for the impossible.  She sees a gap between the rocks, she sees a light of glimmering hope, and commands the crew to change course and head directly for the opening.  The first mate, warns her, “It’s impossible to go through, the water is too shallow and we’ll run our ship aground.”  Alice replys, “The only way to achieve the impossible is to believe it is possible.”

Alice Through the Looking Glass is a film directed by James Bobin based on Lewis Carroll’s book and adapted to the screen by Linda Woolverton.  The film runs 113 mins long filmed in the United Kingdom on an Arri Alexa with a budget of $170 million.  This film is the sequel to Alice in Wonderland, about Alice Kingsleigh’s (Mia Wasikowska) adventure in wonderland, rescuing her old friend, Hatter Tarrant Hightopp (Johnny Depp) from death.

The film starts off with Alice running from pirates at sea and successfully getting away.  She states her quote, “The only way to achieve the impossible is to believe it is possible,” when confronted by a situation that looks like there is a way out.  But when her friend, Hatter Tarrant Hightopp asks her to believe the impossible is possible when it comes to death, she refuses, until Mirana (Anne Hathaway) tells her that there may be a way to go back in time and rescue Hatter’s parents from death.  Alice finds the device that takes her back into time only to realize that what has happened can not be changed.  Time (Sacha Baron Cohen), tells her, “You might not change the past, but you might learn something from it.”  With Time on her trail to take back what has been stolen from him and Iracebeth (Helena Bonham Carter), desperately trying to take from Alice what she stolen so that she can change the past, Alice takes us on an adventure of a lifetime, trying to save Hatter’s parents from death.

I truly loved the quotes in this film.  They were a mountain of wisdom and knowledge that I plan on using for the rest of my life:

“I used to think time was a thief. But you give before you take. Time is a gift. Every minute. Every second.” –Alice Kingsleigh

“Everyone parts with everything eventually, my dear.” –Time

“You might not change the past, but you might learn something from it.” –Time

“The only way to achieve the impossible is to believe it is possible.” – Alice Kingsleigh

The quotes were so inspiring, the acting was amazing, the special effects were unreal, and the story was truly unique and captivating.  You come out of this film with inspiration, to achieve the impossible and follow your dreams.  This film is more for adults than for kids.  Kids know how to dream, but we, adults, forget over time.  This film, isn’t just for adults, it’s a great watch with your kids.  They’ll be just as amazed with the story and the special effects as you will be.  It was my daughter that noticed Hatter’s eye colors changing with his moods.

Now available on DVD, if you haven’t seen it, rent it, if you have watch it again!
